Ask your folder. Get the page.
PDFs, Word files, notes, spreadsheets as CSV. AskFolder reads them right here, in this browser tab.
An example answer. Yours come from your own files.
AskFolder turns a folder of documents into something you can ask. Type a question in plain words and get the passage that answers it, with the file and the page it's on. It reads everything in your browser: your files are never uploaded, so nobody else can read them, us included.
Free for folders of up to 50 files. No account, no sign-up.

Ask in plain words
No keywords to guess
Type what you'd ask a colleague. AskFolder weighs every passage in every file by your words and by what they mean, so "end the lease" also finds "terminate", and a typo still finds its word. The best come first, as you type, even while the folder is still being read.
Every answer cited
It shows you where
Each answer names its file and its page (or paragraph, or line), with the words you asked highlighted. Open the PDF right at that page, or copy the passage with its citation for an email, a report or a brief.
Private by design, not by promise
Your files never leave
AskFolder is a page that works on your computer. Your browser reads the files, builds the index and answers the questions, all on this machine. The page's security policy forbids it from sending data anywhere, so there is nothing for us to store, lose or be asked to hand over.
Works offline
Once the page has loaded, unplug. Reading and asking need no network: there was never a server in the loop.
No account
Nothing to sign up for and nothing to remember. Open the page, drop a folder, ask. Close the tab and it's gone.
Your files go nowhere.
Here's the receipt.
- 1Read on your computer. Your browser opens each file with readers that ship with the page. Nothing is uploaded.
- 2Indexed in memory. The index lives in this tab and is gone when you close it.
- 3Locked down. The page's security policy only lets it fetch its own code from askfolder.com, and send nothing. Open your browser's Network panel and watch.
- Your documents never
- Read and searched in this tab only.
- Your questions never
- Answered in this tab only.
- RPTX LLC (AskFolder) nothing
- No account, analytics, cookies or trackers.
- Cloudflare (hosting) loading the page
- Your IP address, to send you the page's own files.

Do you see my files?
No. They never leave your computer: your browser reads them, and the page is forbidden by its own security policy to send data anywhere. We couldn't see them if we wanted to.
Is it AI?
Partly, and all of it on your computer. A careful word search is joined by a small AI model that understands meaning (all-MiniLM-L6-v2), so a question finds passages that say it in other words. The model is downloaded once from askfolder.com and runs in your browser. Pro will add written answers from a larger model, also run on your own computer, so your files still go nowhere.
What does it read?
PDF, Word (.docx), plain text, Markdown, CSV, HTML, JSON, XML, YAML, subtitles and logs. Scanned PDFs that are only pictures of pages have no text to read yet; Pro will read them too. Anything AskFolder can't read is listed, never silently skipped.
Where does my folder go when I close the tab?
Nowhere: it was only ever in the tab's memory, and closing the tab clears it. Your original files stay exactly where they were, untouched.
How big a folder can it handle?
Free reads up to 50 files at a time; Pro has no limit. Speed depends on your computer: a typical laptop reads hundreds of pages in seconds, and you can ask while it's still reading.
